Zella A. Black passed away at Mercy Health in Boardman on May 7, 2024 following a short illness. She was 91.

Born in Chester, W.Va. Aug. 18, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Ethel Mae (Brewer) Robinson. She was a graduate of Chester High School in 1951.

Zella met the love of her life when her brother brought his best friend home on leave from the Army. He was a farm boy from Iowa and would later become her best friend and husband Arnold. They were married on Dec. 7, 1952.

Zella was a member of the Chester Church of the Nazarene, where she and Arnold held offices and were builders of the parsonage and church community. Zella organized and held dinners with celebrations at the church. Later they became members of the East Liverpool Church of the Nazarene.

Zella received her life experience degree in love and passion as she raised her three children. Eddie was her "favorite". He was a special needs child that lived with her for 55 years. She enjoyed crafts, ceramics and family picnics. She enjoyed visiting area nursing homes sharing her stories and making new friends. She lived near Crossroads Assisted Living where she became very close to Steve, Snook and the boys. She adopted them as her second family. Eventually she became a resident at Crossroads and found an entire community to expand her family. They won her heart and spoiled her. Zella is now in her new heavenly home with her husband and son.

She was preceded in death by her husband Arnold Black and her son Eddie. She was also preceded by three brothers Virgil, Donald and Cecil Lee Robinson and four sisters Belva Morris, Grace, Mabel and Edna Robinson and a granddaughter, Jennifer Roach.

She is survived by two daughters, Judy (Gregg) Householder, Debbie (Randy) Wilson, both of East Liverpool. There are two grandchildren, Missy Davis and Dan Wilson. There are seven great-grandchildren, Alex, Preston and Izabella Ward, Michael and Ryan Davis, Brody and Cooper Wilson. There are two great-great-grandchildren, David Mellinger IV and Jaxson Ward.

Pastor Bob Sylvies will conduct services at the chapel in Columbiana County Memorial Park on Friday, May 17 at 2 p.m.
