Apr 23, 1939 — Aug 20, 2025
Steven William Griger, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and dedicated educator, passed away peacefully at home on August 20, 2025, in East Liverpool, Ohio. Born on April 23, 1939, in Cleveland, Ohio, Steve lived a life rich with love, adventure, and dedication to those he loved. He was 86 years old at the time of his passing.
After graduating from Ohio University, Steve worked with the Cleveland Public Schools for over 30 years, teaching physical education and shaping minds for more than one generation of students.
Known for his adventurous spirit, Steve, along with his loving wife of 65 years, Jill Anne Griger, traveled in an RV to all 50 states, creating great memories and deepening their bond through shared experiences. His love for the great outdoors was evident in his enthusiasm for fishing, hunting, and camping.
As a young man, Steve was involved with the Boy Scouts. The wooden neckerchief slides that he and his father created are now in the Boy Scout Museum in Cleveland. In later years, Steve spent hours creating stained glass lamps, window hangings and more that will be treasured by his family.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Steven J. and Blanche (Greaves) Griger. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Jill Anne Griger; his children, son Steven L. Griger and daughter Gayle (Karl) Marshall; and grandchildren Anthony Ozenbaugh, Ericka Ozenbaugh, Ryan Ozenbaugh (Molly Giles), Brandi (Jason) McCoskey, Greg Marshall, and Lauren Marshall (Kyle Cobaugh). He also leaves a legacy of love and laughter with his great-grandchildren, Phoenix Blazier, Grant Blazier, Garret Marshall, Emilia Marshall, Riley Cobaugh, Gabe Cobaugh, and Coleson Cobaugh.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Martin Chapel of Care Funeral & Cremation Specialists. In keeping with Steve's wishes, no formal services will follow his private cremation.
Steven William Griger will be remembered for his quiet smile, generous spirit, and the memories he left on all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
