Obituary

Larry E. McConnell, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and steadfast public servant, passed away on November 29, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Boardman following a valiant struggle with a prolonged illness. Larry's life was a testament to his unshakable commitment to others, illuminated by a sharp sense of humor and a generous heart that left an enduring mark on all who knew him.

Larry served his community with distinction, beginning his career as an Ohio State Trooper, where his exceptional dedication earned him the prestigious Ohio State Highway Patrol's "Trooper of the Year" award at Post 15. He later served as a Columbiana County Deputy Sheriff and concluded his career as the Director of Security at East Liverpool City Hospital. His bravery shone brightly in countless moments, most notably when he heroically and at the risk of his own life, saved the lives of fire department personnel during a shootout in Rogers—a selfless act that embodied his deep devotion to safeguarding those around him. Over years of faithful service, Larry built a legacy of courage and compassion that will long be remembered.

Renowned for his quick wit and authentic friendship, Larry had an extraordinary gift for connecting with people, offering warmth and kindness to everyone he met. His vibrant personality and deep care for others were the cornerstones of a life well-lived. It was always fun being with Larry and many great memories were made in his company.

Larry is survived by his wife, Vicky McConnell, who stood steadfastly by his side throughout his courageous battle. He also leaves behind his treasured children: son Brent (ImSun) McConnell of Washington, DC and daughters, Mellissa McConnell of Zanesville, Heidi (Dan) Lower of Columbiana, and Tracy Reinhart of East Liverpool. Larry took pride in his seven grandchildren—Brandon, Joshua (Emily), Zachary, Kat, Jonathan, Haleigh, and Leila.
