Obituary

Joseph Wellershause of East Liverpool, Ohio, passed away peacefully in his home on May 7, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on August 11, 1937, in Wellsville, Ohio, Joe spent his entire life serving and nurturing the community he cherished.

Joe was known far and wide as "Milligan Joe," a testament to his 43 years of dedicated service at Milligan Hardware, where he specialized in lawn mower repair. His expertise and friendly demeanor left a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of working with him or seeking his assistance.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Joe's heart was deeply rooted in his love for gardening. Whether tending to vegetables or flowers, he found joy and solace in cultivating nature's beauty. His green thumb was admired by many and contributed to the vibrant life he led.

As a lifelong member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Joe exemplified the values of service and commitment to others. His dedication extended to his role as a volunteer firefighter at the Glenmoor Fire Department, where he worked tirelessly to keep the community safe. Joe also valued a bit of fun with his community, spending many years running the beard contest at the Tri-State Pottery Festival. As a member of the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church in East Liverpool, Joe's faith guided his actions and connected him to his community in profound and meaningful ways.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Wellershause and Maude Marie Jackson; his devoted wife, Darlene (Brown) Wellershause; his brother, Frederick Wellershause Jr; his sisters, Emma and Rose Wellershause; and his beloved son, Chris Wellershause.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Candis Wallace; and grandchildren, Mariah Russell, Christopher Russell, and Nicholas Wallace, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness, resilience, and generosity.

Joe's family extends their eternal gratitude to Joe's personal caretaker, Patricia Cogar, and to Ohio's Hospice for their compassionate care and support. Your kindness and skills were appreciated beyond measure.

Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate Joe's life. Visitation will take place at the Martin Chapel of Care Funeral and Cremation Specialists in Calcutta on Monday, May 12th, from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm. A funeral service will follow on Tuesday, May 13th, at 11am, officiated by Pastor Greg Mead, also at Care's Martin Chapel. Following the service, attendees will process to Columbiana County Memorial Park for a graveside ceremony.

Joe's life was a testament to hard work, community service, and familial love. He leaves behind a legacy that will be treasured by all who knew him. May his soul rest in eternal peace
