Obituary

With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the passing of James Ryan "Book" Maxwell, who departed this life at home in East Liverpool, Ohio. Born on June 13, 1977, in Rochester, Pennsylvania, James was a beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Though his time on earth has come to an end, the memories he created, the lives he touched and the love he shared will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

James was the beloved son of Gwendolyn Booker and stepson of Duwayne Booker. He was a proud graduate of Beaver High School. Class of 1995. Throughout his life, James built meaningful relationships with family, friends, and those he considered more than friends - his brothers, his crew, his ride-or-dies, his boys for life.

Above all, James cherished his family. He leaves behind to treasure his memory his beloved mother Gwen; son, James (Desiree) Maxwell; brother, Anthony Beal; sister, Randi Dilliard; and his precious granddaughters Ja'Nova, affectionately known as "Cutie Bootie", and Ja'Layah, lovingly called "Rose Bud" Maxwell, who brought a special kind of joy and love into his life.

He also leaves behind several beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, dear friends, and his loyal crew - his boys for life, his ride-or-dies, and those who stood beside him through the years.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Loretta "Gram" Maxwell, as well as his beloved aunts, Norma, Margie (Johnny), and Vickie.

James' presence was one of a kind, and his memory will live on through the stories shared, the laughter remembered, the bonds that cannot be broken, and the love that will never fade. Though his passing leaves an emptiness in the hearts of those who loved him, his legacy will continue through his children, grandchildren, family, and friends.

As we say goodbye to James, we do not say goodbye to the memories, the love, or the impact he made on our lives. Those things remain with us forever. His journey on earth may have ended, but the love he leaves behind will continue for generations to come.

Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. Forever loved, forever remembered, and forever one of the boys.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, November 7, 2026 from 10AM-2PM at the Martin Chapel of Care Funeral & Cremation in Calcutta. The funeral will follow at 2PM.
