Obituary

James A. "Jim" Hitt, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed community member, passed away peacefully at his residence on April 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 87 years old.

Jim was born on July 30, 1937, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, to the late Earl R. and Agnes E. (Evans) Hitt. He spent his formative years in Wellsville, Ohio, where he graduated from Wellsville High School in 1956.

A man of exceptional dedication and skill, Jim built a respected career as a crane operator. He worked at Crucible Steel until its closing in 1982, after which he continued his profession at General Materials Terminal in Baden, Pennsylvania. Additionally, Jim served as a valued Associate for Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Home, where his compassionate nature was greatly appreciated.

Jim was deeply proud of his heritage and was an active member of both the National Society Sons of the American Revolution and the General Society of Mayflower Descendants. He was also a member of Wellsville First Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Daniel Hitt.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Rosemary (Cline) Hitt, whom he married on February 27, 1960. Together they raised three children: Michael (Heather) Hitt, of Wellsville, Charissa (Mike) Nagy, of Canton, and Jeremy (Katie) Hitt, of Wellsville. Jim was also the cherished grandfather of six grandchildren: Jacob (Bree) Hitt, Cody (Karen) Hitt, Bradley Nagy, Jason Nagy, Avery Hitt, and Jeremiah Hitt.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Wellsville First Christian Church, 831 Main Street, Wellsville, Ohio. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM, with Pastor Mark Blakeley of the church officiating.

Jim's legacy of love, dedication, and integrity will forever be remembered by all who knew him. His memory will be cherished in the hearts of his family and friends.
