Obituary

Dorothy A. White, R.N., a beloved daughter of East Liverpool, Ohio, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, at the age of 96. Over the course of a remarkable life, she gave her community something rare and lasting: more than fifty years of compassionate, skilled nursing care — a career that touched the lives of patients, families, and colleagues across the region.

Born on Christmas Eve, 1929, Dorothy came of age with a calling to serve others. She pursued that calling through a nursing career that would span more than five decades and take her through the halls of nearly every major medical facility in the East Liverpool area. As a Registered Nurse, she brought her skills and warmth to East Liverpool City Hospital, East Liverpool Osteopathic Hospital, Potters Medical Center, East Liverpool Extended Care Center, and Calcutta Health Care Center.

For half a century, Dorothy was a constant presence at the bedsides of the sick and the recovering, the elderly and the vulnerable. She worked through the sweeping changes that transformed American healthcare — from the post-war era through the dawn of the 21st century — adapting always, but never losing the personal touch that made her exceptional. Colleagues remembered her steadiness in difficult moments; patients remembered her kindness. In a career measured not in years but in lives steadied and comforted, Dorothy White left an indelible mark on her community.

Outside the hospital, Dorothy's life was rooted in faith. A devout Christian and dedicated member of Fredrektown Christian Church, she served her congregation for many years as treasurer — a role that reflected the same quiet reliability she brought to her nursing. Her faith was not a private matter but a living practice, visible in her service, her generosity, and the steadfast love she gave to all who knew her.

Dorothy was born to Jay and Laura Mae (Thomas) Smith, and she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Henry Thomas "Tom" White; her son, Bruce White; and her son-in-law, Tex Mynster.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Barbara Mynster and Lisa (Terry) Baker; her daughter-in-law, Carmel White; her cherished grandchildren, Erin, Ben, Meghan, Ross, Zack, and Billy; and seven adored great-grandchildren. They mourn together the loss of a woman whose life was, in every sense, an act of service.

Services to honor Dorothy's life will be held at the Martin Chapel of Care Funeral and Cremation Specialists on Monday, May 11, 2026. Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by a service officiated by Pastor Terry Baker. A graveside service will follow at Columbiana County Memorial Park Cemetery.

For more than fifty years, Dorothy White showed up — for her patients, her church, her family, and her community. That is a legacy that does not fade.
