David Wesley Howell, 79, of Hammondsville, died Monday, April 20, 2026, at Valley Hospice in Steubenville, Ohio.

David was born in Pine Grove on May 24, 1946, the son of the late Arvil and Sarah (Wilson) Howell. He graduated from Stanton High School in 1964. He lived the majority of his life in the area, except for several years in Florida.

After High School, David entered the Army and fought for his country in the Vietnam war. After returning home, he worked at Crucible Steel and then became the Owner and Operator of Howell Excavating, where he spent many years working hard and continuing to build a life for his family. He became well known for his quick wit, quiet determination, and willingness to help others any time he could.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Pamela Saltzman Howell; children Sean (Michelle) Howell and Amy (Gary) Boyer; grandchildren Lane (Caitlyn) Howell, Owen Howell, Morgan Boyer, Issac Collins, Riley Collins, and Kase Collins; and great-grandchildren Hayden Howell and Eolia Collins.

He is also survived by his siblings Douglas Howell, Daniel Howell, Carol Henry, Judy Lawrence, Laura (Roy) Walters, and several beloved nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Sarah and Arvil Howell, and his stepson, Donny Collins.

Dave's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
