With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the peaceful passing of Daniel W. Hickman, known affectionately by many as "Dad" or "Pops," on June 30, 2025, with his loving family by his side.

Born on July 25, 1938, Dan lived a life full of passion, kindness, and dedication to his family, community, and the people whose lives he touched.

At just 17 years old, Dan bravely joined the United States Army, beginning one of his most treasured chapters in life. His time in the military allowed him to travel the world, and he proudly shared stories of his adventures for the rest of his life. His service was one of his greatest accomplishments, and he spoke of it often with deep pride and gratitude.

Dan was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Gloria Hickman, with whom he shared 41 wonderful years of marriage. Their love was the kind that others admired—steadfast, joyful, and enduring. Dan loved Gloria with all of his heart, and together they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, family, and unwavering support.

A proud entrepreneur, Dan owned and operated the beloved Sheffield Deli for 33 years, where he earned the nickname "Deli Dan" and became a staple in the community. He also owned the Sheffield Sports Bar, and for two decades, he served as a respected softball and basketball referee. He was also a dedicated softball coach, especially proud to coach his grandchildren over the years, always encouraging them to be their very best.

To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was simply Pops—a name spoken with deep affection. He was their biggest supporter, their coach, their guiding hand, and their hero.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents Chester and Janet Hickman, and his siblings Bucky Hickman, Mary Webster, and Marian Sutter.

He is survived by his loving wife Gloria Hickman; his siblings Louis (Kathy) Hickman and Christine Haynes; his devoted children Brenda LoVerde (Charles), Denise Scott, and Timothy McCombs; his cherished grandchildren Nichole Dowd (Rob), Angela Alhasani (Ihab), Cassie Dougherty (Dan), Daniel LoVerde, Blair McCombs, David McCombs, Sean McCombs, and Owen McCombs; and his adored great-grandchildren Lucas Dougherty, Skarlet Dougherty, Charlie Alhasani, Raja'a Alhasani, and John Dowd.

Dan will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his unmatched work ethic, his quick wit, and the way he made everyone feel welcome and loved. His legacy will live on through the lives of those he touched.

He was deeply loved and will be truly missed.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 4PM-6PM at the Martin Chapel of Care Funeral & Cremation Specialists in Calcutta. The funeral will follow at 6PM with Pastor Susan Pickering officiating. Dan will be laid to rest in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Washington County, PA
