Craig J. Franklin, born on February 10, 1961, in Wellsville, Ohio, passed on April 12, 2025, in Vancouver, Canada, at the age of 64. His journey through life was one marked by kindness, passion, and an unwavering commitment to making the world around him a better place.

Craig's early years in Wellsville were filled with promise and energy. A proud graduate of Wellsville High School, class of 1979, he excelled in football, basketball, and track. He continued his education at Kent State University, where he studied Criminal Justice and Spanish, laying the foundation for a life enriched by diverse experiences and cultures.

His work journey began as the Head Cook at Jillian's Restaurant in Akron, where he honed his culinary skills. Craig spent numerous years working at Cedar Point before moving to Vancouver in 2004, where he began a new chapter as a bartender. His first visit to Vancouver in 2002 saw him volunteering at a local homeless shelter, setting the tone for his lifelong dedication to service.

In Vancouver, Craig found his true calling at the Vancouver Public Library, where he worked for over 18 years. His fun-loving and joyful spirit was well-known and cherished by patrons and colleagues alike. Children especially bonded with Craig, drawn to his contagious, kind smile and big heart. His co-workers respected him as a thorough and hard worker, and his impact was so profound that grief counselors were brought in after his passing, and a tribute hour was held to share stories and create a memory book for his family.

Craig's interests were as varied as they were passionate. He loved traveling to warm climates, volunteering annually for events like the Vancouver Marathon and The Vancouver Sun Run, and playing card and board games with friends and family. A true sports enthusiast, Craig was a devoted fan of the Cleveland Browns, Cavaliers, Guardians, Ohio State College Basketball, Vancouver Canucks, BC Lions, and tennis. He also stayed connected to his beloved hometown Wellsville Tigers. He stayed active by running track, shooting hoops, bicycling, walking, and playing tennis.

A man of many talents, Craig was an excellent photographer and videographer, had a green thumb, and was known for his distinctive handlebar mustache. He loved dressing up for all holidays, enjoyed barbecuing, and was a great cook. He co-organized family reunions in Wellsville and attended numerous class reunions. An avid reader and lover of R&B and pop music, Craig's vibrant personality touched everyone he met.

Craig became a dual citizen of the United States and Canada in 2010, further deepening his connection to both countries he called home. He volunteered for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics and was chosen to participate in the Closing Ceremony show, a testament to his community spirit and love for bringing people together.

Craig is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Gwendolyn "Dee" Carter Franklin.

He is survived by his father, Donald Franklin; sister, Kim Franklin; brothers: Reggie Franklin, Donnie Franklin II, and Tim (Melissa) Franklin; his step-mother, SuAnn (Willie) Scott, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and many, many dear friends

A memorial service will be held at 12 PM on Monday, May 19, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Wellsville. Craig will be laid to rest in Spring Hill Cemetery next to his beloved mother.

Craig J. Franklin's life was a testament to the power of love, friendship, and community. His wide-spread love, joyful spirit, and unwavering dedication to those around him will be sorely missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
