Charles "Butch" Burke Jr., a decorated Navy veteran, passed away peacefully at The Homestead at Gentlebrook , in Hartville, OH on April 19, 2025. Born on February 9, 1939, in East Liverpool, Ohio, Butch lived an extraordinary life of service, reaching the age of 86.

Butch's distinguished Navy career spanned three decades, during which he earned numerous accolades and the respect of all who served with him. His dedication and expertise led him to participate in two presidential details. He proudly served seven years in London and another seven in Hawaii. Among his many accomplishments, he participated in handling two Gemini Recovery Programs, and served on two different aircraft carriers. Additionally, Butch was a certified Explosive Ordnance Disposal Specialist and Master Blaster, and was an instructor at the EOD school. He was a certified Deep Sea Diver trained in salvage, rescue, and ship repair, and a certified Navy Parachutist.

A member of the esteemed Virginia Beach Amateur Radio Club, Butch made lasting friendships and shared his passion for communication and service. He was part of the team that set up the radio room aboard the USS Wisconsin. He was also a valued member of the Disaster Services team, contributing significantly to the search, rescue, and recovery efforts during the hurricanes of the 1990s..

Butch found joy and peace in nature, often spending his free time hiking and walking. His love for the outdoors was matched only by his passion for canine training, particularly as it pertained to organized search and rescue missions.

Preceded in death by his beloved parents, Charles R. Burke Sr. and Sarah Manypenny Burke; his cherished wife of 40 years, Frances Joanne Aquino Burke; his children Jerry, Cookie, Joann, Julie, and Joyce; and his brothers Jan and Joe, Butch leaves behind a legacy of devotion and honor.

He is survived by his loving siblings: brothers Keith, Jon and Larry, and his sister Sharon; as well as 13 grandchildren,35 great grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren who will cherish his memory.

Butch will be laid to rest with full military honors beside his wife at Rosewood Cemetery in Virginia Beach, VA on June 4, 2025 at 12PM. His unwavering dedication to his country and family, his profound sense of duty, and his kind spirit will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
